Joint Source Water Protection Plan

Steve Burns of B.M. Ross & Associates made a presentation to Council recommending that Mono, together with Orangeville, Amaranth and East Garafraxa, enter into a Joint Water Supply Management Model as outlined in their study. The agreement outlines how the four municipalities would jointly assess the risk to Source Water and to periodically update the hydrologic and hydrogeological data. The agreement would allow the partners to share the cost to undertake those updates.

Source Water Protection Plans are mandated by the province and are a tool used by municipalities to facilitate the planning and management of water supply resources to ensure the sustainability of a long-term supply to municipal wells. The Joint Water Supply Management Model allows us to take a larger view of water supply and associated risks and coordinate responses with our neighbouring municipalities.

Internet & Telephone Voting

Council passed a bylaw authorizing voting by both Internet and telephone during the upcoming 2018 municipal election. At the January 24, 2017 Council Meeting, CAO Mark Early presented a report outlining the benefits of Internet & telephone voting over traditional paper ballots. This bylaw authorizes the Town to proceed.

Website Overview

Web Content Specialist Fred Simpson gave a report detailing the number of visitors to the website in 2016. In his report, Mr. Simpson noted that page views increased by 11% compared to 2015, totaling nearly 116,000 last year. The Town's website has over 520 pages of content & 8,800 documents.

Additions to the website in 2016 included Council Highlights, a property tax calculator & online event registration for recreation programs. While the Town did experience a five-fold increase in subscribers since 2015, it was noted that less than 10% of residents subscribe to the Town's newsletter. With that in mind, please visit and sign up to receive the Town’s newsletter or subscribe to any of the Town’s news feeds.
