Craig Pit Applies for Below Water Extraction Permit

Council received a report from CMB Aggregates regarding their application to permit extraction from below the water table at the Craig Gravel Pit, located at the southeast corner of 5 Sideroad and Hurontario Street. CAO Mark Early reported that this fairly technical document was sent to the Town's Engineer for review and comment. Council also received a letter from Orangeville Town Council indicating that they opposed the application.

It should be noted that Mono Councillor Ralph Manktelow recused himself from today's discussion due to his involvement with Island Lake Rowing Club which previously submitted a letter of objection to CBM's application.

Sponsorship Request for Open Hands Missions Trip

Council received a request from Hal Gillet to financially support the Open Hands Missions trip to Nicaragua. Council was in agreement that the request did not fall within the policy guidelines that it applies to requests for funding. The Town tends towards supporting community groups as opposed to individuals. So while the request was denied, Mayor Ryan wished Mr. Gillet all the best in the good work that he is involved in.

HCIA Trails Summit Rental Subsidy Request

Council considered a request from Headwaters Communities In Action to waive the rental fee for Monora Pavillion for their upcoming HeadwatersTrails Summit. It was noted that HCIA is already receiving the Community Group preferred rate to rent Monora Paviliion and that the Town was not inclined to provide a further subsidy. This is in keeping with Council's decision on April 11th, 2017 regarding the Dufferin Board of Trade's request to waive their rental fee.

Half Load Limit Lifted

Director of Public Works Michael Dunmore reported that the half load limit on Mono roads was lifted on April 19th. This is the earliest it has been lifted in recent memory. Road grading is underway though Mr. Dunmore cautioned that it is still very early in the season and his is cognizant of raising too much dust prior to applying calcium.
