Tax Write-offs on Municipal Properties

Treasurer Les Halucha submitted a list of Town owned and operated properties that are normally exempt from paying property taxes; but are listed on the tax role, thereby necessitating a tax write-off by Council.

The combined assessed value of the properties is $1.456 million with a total tax of $20,369.39. Writing the taxes off avoids the town paying property taxes to itself, the County and school boards.

Portable Weigh Scales for Half Load Limit

Every spring the Town establishes a "half load limit" on commercial trucks using town roads in order to protect the roads from damage during spring thaw. As all municipalities in the county do the same, the Dufferin Joint Police Services Board recommended that the municipalities share the cost of purchasing a set of portable weigh scales to help the OPP enforce the weight limit. Council supported the idea of sharing the purchase cost of weight scales, estimated to be $6,000, between the municipalities that are policed by the Dufferin OPP.
