More Public Washrooms Needed

Mono Cliffs Provincial Park During public question period, local real estate agent Elaine Kehoe suggested that the Town provide public washroom facilities near popular hiking trails in Mono Centre. Elaine, whose office is in Mono Centre, commented that many people who hike at Mono Cliffs Provincial Park make use of the parking at Mono Community Centre and would benefit from access to public restrooms. Council agreed that there is a need and that the Town would explore the possibility of either obtaining portable washrooms (porta-potties) or perhaps making the washrooms at Mono Community Centre available during peak hours. Director of Recreation Kim Perryman will investigate and report back to Council.

Violet Hill Spillway

Andrew Gill, representing Protect Mono, a local citizen's group, asked that Council support the heritage protection of the Violet Hill Spillway. Councilor Martin, who sits on the Heritage Advisory Committee, spoke to the issue stating that the Town has recommended to the NEC that the spillway should be included in the proposed expanded NEC Area, and that the Heritage Advisory Committee would be meeting with Bert Duclos at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, to discuss the heritage attributes.

Further to the spillway, Council received a report co-written by K. Rosenbrock (B.L.A., OALA) and J. Farrugia (B.Arch.,M.Arch.(CP), OAA, MRAIC) in support of protecting the Violet Hill Spillway in which they recommend that the NEC include the spillway as a protected area in the Niagara Escarpment Plan. As mentioned above, Council has added its support to the recommendation.
